Proposal

Proposal

I plan to do reduction and image making through taking something away. I plan to do a series or one piece made up of several. I feel that this can be best achieved through an experimental creative process. This is an area that has always interested me. The subject area I plan to use is buildings/architecture.

The main influence up to this point on the project has been Aldo Tolino. I have done some artist research which was important. The reason why he works with paper is a key part. The endless possibilities with it and how much you can manipulate which interests me. One key thing he says which for me sums it well that there is "two very interesting things with paper, you can put paint on it, you can print something on it, or you can fold pieces of paper”. I have done mind maps at the start of the project for initial ideas which has been good starting point for me. I will continue with research and development throughout the project.

This project is process driven. I will be exploring and developing through experimentation. I will be doing hand manipulation but I still will use photoshop. I will use techniques directly to the photograph also how printing could directly change the photo. With photoshop, I would be looking at what I can do which is maybe more precise. Maybe changing or adding colour. Also, things that involve a lot of detail that would be done better digitally. I may look at using both. Doing manipulation by hand then putting it into photoshop. Then maybe do more manipulation by hand again for example. If more than one technique is used together I feel that they have to work together especially if it is digitally and hand manipulation techniques. With using a form of paper I can really use a range of techniques and get a variety through the process.

For my outcome, I plan to do a series relating to what I have explored throughout the project. The outcome will vary throughout  depending on the development that is done. I would like it to show one or more things. The importance of what has been taken away. Show what happens when something is taken away. Also, see what is added by taking away by what is left or replaced. With the project to get a successful outcome, I feel that it is important to review what I have done in the project at key points. To look back at what I have done. What has worked and what hasn't. Also to decide on what to do next in the project to continue.
