TST and Feedback

TST and Feedback

Today I have had a peer assessment on the TST. In the end, I used photographs from my first roll of film as my second roll did not turn out well. As my project is about taking away in my first roll of film I took photographs of objects that I would l use to manipulate the photograph. While printing I wanted to take away from the photograph as well. I tried out different techniques. But I liked the effect of putting tape over certain areas of the photograph taking that object away from the photograph. With the final I did this with a photograph that is out focus. The reason I did this with the focus out was that it was taking another element away. This also took some of the objects Identity away. With the tape being taken off it left that certain area of the paper to go blue. This is because that area is still light sensitive as it was covered up while being developed. The blue which is there gives an idea of tape being there.

Techniques Test - Digital

Techniques Test

I have taken a photograph that I have taken and changed it digitally. The photograph was not taken for this purpose. I just wanted to use it to test some techniques out. I have changed it in different ways trying to take something away. I have also used an image that is a building.

Techniques Test - By Hand

Techniques Test

From doing artist research on Amy Friend I decided that I would get some old photographs and do some hand manipulation to them. I went to a charity shop to get some old photographs. I tried to get ones of buildings or architecture  as that is my subject area that I am doing. As if I look back on the work to review or to see if that technique worked it won't be any good as that technique my work with portraits but maybe not architecture.

Amy Friend

The work that I am looking at that uses a technique of putting holes through the photograph. She has old photographs from either personal or an impersonal point. She makes small holes let the light through. This then changes the meaning. They are once manipulated re-photographed. The work looks at the "visible and non visible". The series is called Dare all Luce. This means "to bring to the light".

Proposal

Proposal

I plan to do reduction and image making through taking something away. I plan to do a series or one piece made up of several. I feel that this can be best achieved through an experimental creative process. This is an area that has always interested me. The subject area I plan to use is buildings/architecture.

TST Object No.2

TST Object for Second Shoot

I have recently built a paper model of Tower Bridge which is London. I have taken a few pictures to show the process of making the model.

TST Update

Update on TST

I decided to use 35mm film. The reason for this is I want to do a range of shot compositions and a range of manipulations. This would allow me to do this. I have done a shoot of my objects to do with what I would use while experimenting on Negotiated Project. The film has not yet been developed. I would like though do a second shoot. This would be an another idea I have had on what my object could else be. This was a building. The thing is that a building can't be taken in the studio for obvious reasons. The reason why I would like to do a building is this has a stronger relation to my Negotiated Project. The way I'm going to overcome this is by building a paper model that is a building. I do feel that doing this will be more of an advantage to my Negotiated Project. It would give the project more aid, development and experimental work that would be important to refer too.

TST Objects

TST Objects List

I have made a little list of objects that I wish to photograph for my TST.

TST Ideas

Ideas For TST

I have noted down ideas of what to shoot. Also, what I could do in the darkroom. My main thoughts are to photograph objects that I would use while experimenting.

Transformative Studio Task

Transformative Studio Task - What is it?

This is a smaller project that isn't part of Negotiated project. But it is something that will have to relate to it. It will also aid the project.

We have to use an object or objects for our subject. It has to be taken in the studio on film in black and white.

As we have to follow certain things it means that we will be looking at the project from a different angle. This may be an important part of the development of the negotiated project.

At the end, we will have to produce a single black and white hand print (8 by 10 inch) that has been done in the darkroom.

Mood Board No.2

Mood Board of Buildings/Architecture

I have done another mood board. This time, I have looked at buildings/architecture photography. There are also some techniques there as well.

Aldo Tolino

The works of Aldo Tolino that I really like is his works of Folded Portraits. The main material that he works with is paper. In a video, he mentions how paper is unlike canvas as you are able to change much more. That there are "two very interesting things with paper, you can put paint on it, you can print something on it, or you can fold pieces of paper".

The Start

The Start

To start the project I decided that I wanted to mind map out previous projects and new ideas. Then see where to go from there.
